Midwifery Care in Northern Arizona

A midwife is a trained professional who provides wellness care for a woman and her newborn throughout the childbearing cycle, Midwives also provide well woman care. We provide prenatal care, labor and delivery care and postpartum care with an  emphasis on informing and educating you, and supporting you in making the decisions that are right for you as an individual and a family. Midwives feel that pregnancy and birth are normal healthy events in the female life cycle. The basic responsibility of the midwife is to facilitate the healthy progression through pregnancy, birth, postpartum and early parenting, while guarding against complications.

Traditionally, midwives are known for their comforting, gentle support of the birthing mother. Today we strive to combine these caring attitudes with the technical information currently available in order to provide an alternative that is safe, respectful, and satisfying. Midwives provide evidence based care while honoring our clients’ values and  preferences to provide for shared decision making in the birthing process.

At The Midwives’ Place, we also view birth as a scared rite of passage. We understand that the sacred aspect of birth is different for each individual. We are honored to assist you in kindling that element of your birth.

In Arizona, a Licensed Midwife must meet current state requirements, including:

Completion of a state recognized course of training
Successful completion of state licensing exams, including written, oral and clinical
Maintaining continuing education credits
Certification in neonatal and adult CPR
Adherence to guidelines of Arizona Department of Health Services
